Our Story
Established in 1945 by Francis “Bid” Graham
La Mesa Flooring traces its roots back to 1945, when founder Francis “Bid” Graham turned a bold vision into reality. Originally from Colorado, Mr. Graham was a talented high school football player who declined a scholarship to the University of Colorado in favor of pursuing a career in Finance. After three years in the financial sector, he followed his ambition westward, relocating to San Diego to begin a new chapter.
In downtown San Diego, Mr. Graham began his career in the flooring industry, working as a linoleum and carpet installer for Broadway Linoleum Company and later for Crowne Carpet & Linoleum. His career was briefly paused during World War II when he proudly served in the U.S. Army. Upon returning from service, he resumed work at Crowne Carpet & Linoleum before making the pivotal decision to start his own business at 30 years of age.
Mr. Graham founded La Mesa Carpet & Linoleum Company in 1945 at 8314 La Mesa Blvd in the heart of downtown La Mesa. The business quickly flourished, expanding into adjacent storefronts and becoming a well-known presence in the community. Mr. Graham was also a charter member of the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce, further cementing the company’s local roots.
Mr. Graham remained at the helm until the early 1980s, when he sold the business and retired locally with his family. In 2017, the company was rebranded as La Mesa Flooring Company, continuing the legacy of quality craftsmanship, exceptional service, and community commitment that Mr. Graham established.
Today, La Mesa Flooring remains proudly locally owned, upholding the same values and standards that have defined us for 80 years and counting…
